The one thing you need to get the most out of Clubhouse

I’ve been using Clubhouse for a couple of weeks now and I’ve had some high highs and some low lows with it. I love that I finally have a place where I can just show up and find people talking about all kinds of interesting topics but that doesn’t mean all the topics or people are all great. All in all, however, I really love it!

Like many others, I find myself staying up very late hanging out on the app only to go right back in the very next morning. One feature I find myself pointing out to new users is the search function.

Like on other social media platforms, Clubhouse has a search function you can use to find people and groups that you are interested in interacting with. But here’s why I think it’s the most useful feature: it lets you search someone’s entire bio. This means you can easily find people you want to listen to or interact with on so many levels. You can even search for emojis! I’m very interested in listening to the voices of indigenous peoples, for example, so I searched for people with “indigenous” in their bio as well as the indigenous names for the place that I reside in and the names of the peoples whose land I occupy so I can follow them and listen in on rooms they are speaking in.

Of course, this goes both ways. Not only is a detailed bio useful for finding people but it’s also why you should take the time to make your bio as detailed as possible. Use the words you want to be found for and have fun with emojis. There’s also something to be said for choosing a good username because those come up in searches too. You can only change your username once so choose wisely!

I hope this has been useful to you and I look forward to seeing you on Clubhouse! My username there is the same as here: amoyal. Feel free to reach out with any questions! I’m happy to help! And remember: you have two ears and one mouth, use them proportionately. πŸ™‚
